Dear participants of the SER Europe 11th biannual conference,
Restoration in the Era of Climate Change
held in Reykjavík, Iceland 9-13 Sept. 2018
We want to sincerely thank you for your participation in and contributions to the conference. It was a highly dynamic event attended by over 400 people from 48 countries all over the world. During the conference, nearly 200 oral presentations were given―including seven excellent keynotes―and over 80 posters presented, in addition to in six specialized workshops. The conference also hosted an open Climate Forum, bringing together business leaders, scientists and policy makers to discuss the importance of functional ecosystems in the light of climate change.
The need for a thorough understanding and professional expertise in restoration ecology is even more evident today than ever before. The environmental challenges we are currently facing show us clearly that fully functional ecosystems where biodiversity is protected, carbon sequestration secured and land degradation neutrality ensured is what we need to strive for. We sincerely believe that events such as the SER Europe 2018 conference help in facilitating the science and practices on ecological restoration worldwide.
Looking forward to meet you again at the 12th SER Europe conference in Alicante in 2020!
